I am officially moving this onto the "I'll finish it eventually" shelf. What a shame, I really wanted to love it!

Something about this book is very boring to me!
I think because all the narration comes from regular people and never Dracula. And because I know who/what Dracula is, I am always one step ahead of them!

Like when you watch a scary movie and you think "don't go into the basement!", but less fun because they keep writing off dracula's behavior. They aren't even scared yet!

I will give it 50 more pages to hook me.

Why do the descriptions of the characters coded as Black (aka with fake strange “Black names”) have to be so racist? Multipleeeee anti-black descriptions of the way their hair looks and smells???? Was it necessary?

Honestly that made me want to stop reading right then and there. I am giving it one more chapter. We’ll see…

Only 20 pages in but, whew. I need to do some soul searching. I might stay up all night reading this.

If I had known this was a book about Colorism from the perspective of the colorists I wouldn’t have bought it. But I did so here we are. I plan to finish it but I really don’t know if I will. So far it’s genuinely unpleasant to read this rhetoric.

The word “blueblack” appears on the very FIRST page and I let out a deep negro spiritual sigh at the fact that I will indeed, never know peace.
