it is unnerving to read about a dystopian future that is set in the present. although not to the degree of the book, the parallels of the la middle class neighborhood on fire, the president who wants to go back one hundred years… the coastal towns eroding…

i have rolled my eyes a total of eleven times. and counting.

It feels like my mother’s rambling whenever she tells a story. Simple, tangential, long. The bits of Tagalog in here also feel like home. I understand the simpler phrases but the phrases I don’t understand reinforce the position of the outsider, an effective narrative device to simulate never truly knowing the mother tongue. A little too meandering but quite interesting.

I've gone a few chapters into this book, and the exclusion of trans identities is not surprising but quite appalling. However, I'm still going to finish reading it because it will hopefully provide some good information and interesting arguments to dissect about how data favors the patriarchy. Thank goodness I got this book from a library, but we'll see how the rest of it goes!
