I remember making lots of comparisons between this book & David Copperfield when I initially read it and... yeah, parts of it are so insanely similar. Seriozha is literally just Steerforth. It's kinda funny.

I started reading this in the Summer of 2022, and got 2/3 of the way through (to the end of Boyhood). Although I was enjoying it, at this point I stopped due to going on vacation and, even though I wanted to finish it, never picked it up again. So now I am going to finish it, but first I have to re-read the parts I've already read!
