Willow finally moves out of her apartment and moves in with Beck. She has no idea where her mom went and hasn't heard from her. She has decided to give her dad a chance on her terms after he showed up at the apartment while she was packing it up and getting her things. He explained to her why he left and that he was in no position to be a father at the time and has regretted it every since.

Beck has a party and convinces Willow to go to get away from her problems and have some fun. They both have a little too much to drink and their true feelings come out for each other. Willow ends up running away from Beck because she fears that this will ruin their friendship and Beck will break her heart, causing her to end up like her mother who has had her heart broken numerous times.

Willow is struggling to support her drug addict mother and her, while paying her college tuition and apartment rent. Her mother has been missing ever since she threw a huge party and left their house a disaster. Beck continuously offers to help her, but she refuses his her. They both start to have feelings for each other, but Willow is scared it will ruin their friendship so as a solution Willow makes a list.

Beck and Willow, have been best friends since they were about 6 years old. Willow has not had the easiest life since her dad left her and her mother at the age of 6. After that her mother became an alcoholic and is constantly on drugs while also having numerous men at their small apartment. Beck on the other hand is extremely wealthy but has his own family problems with his dad continuously nagging him.

So far the books has mainly introduced the main character Ani. The author explains her life as a teenager at a prestigious school she went to where something awful apparently happened making her want to reinvent herself as she seemingly in her late 20's now. Her big secret has not been revealed though. She is engaged to a rich guy and works for a magazine company and is living a very high status life.
