new world record, cried just 54 pages into a novel

that was so intense

taking a short break from babel to try and get back into reading - the YA tone of this book seems like it’ll be good for that.
also more stories about immigrants and race dynamics in a modernizing world - this area of historical fiction. 👀

this book is so eerie bc it takes a realistic lens on mystery, but also just the suggestions are so uncomfy

i liked this quote: “lately i’ve been wondering whether having all of our material needs met from birth has been a positive aspect of our lives. […] when one’s parents or grandparents have already quested and conquered, what is there for subsequent generations to do?”

this book was written by a man and is about a teenage male main character but it really was for the girls 😌✨

i really like the stuff about hanna, it’s very real and raw and adds so so much to the book’s overall messages
