This is taking me forever because it's just so painful 😭😭 when do things improve?!

I love all the characters except Linus. He's too anxious and stubborn to function lol.
Also Lucy reads more like 13 years old than 6. There's no way a Year 1 child has this kind of vocabulary and wit.
The romance is starting to show but Linus is constantly disagreeing with Mr Parnassus and then going wow his voice is so nice, I like his face, etc.. Maybe if you like him so much you could try listening to him?

Rashōmon wasn't what I expected but then In a Bamboo Grove was unexpectedly interesting! Jay Rubin's translations read in such a natural way and I also really enjoyed Murakami's introduction! I've skipped ahead to Hell Screen out of curiosity but we will see how that goes...

Hugo is exactly every little boy ever and Isabelle is exactly every little girl ever 😂 I love the bickering but my goodness can Hugo not at least answer ONE of her questions?!

Herbert is SO sweet 😭😭 I just had the scene where he changes the bandages on Pip's burned arms and it's exactly what all the cutesy romantic wound bandaging scenes in YA books wish they were!!

Gerrard Street, Soho? I know it wasn't the centre of Chinatown when Dickens wrote this but it's so funny to me imagining Mr Jaggers living next door to Loon Fung and fighting the bubble tea girlies on his way to court

I think half of the word count so far could have been deleted bc it's literally just Scarlett catching up to the thoughts of the reader in real time. I don't need this much extra explanation - I can follow the narrative myself!
Also icl I have no emotional attachment to the sister. I'm having to sub in my own sis just to feel something lol

I'm only 50/50 now about Mr Gray bc he's actually a decent guy, and about orphan girl bc I like the idea of her becoming the child of a certain new couple 👀

I wish all the annoying extras could be deleted once and for all so we could have more time in Ronan and Adam's minds instead. Trying to avoid giving spoilers but there's soooo much more I want to know about how things have gone in this direction!

I again find myself losing steam with the plot and the more I see of Mr Gray, Mr Malory, and Mr Greenmantle the more I wish this were actually just about Blue and the boys going on meaningless adventures. These unlikeable men are just clogging the page count.

Adam needs to take some anger management classes...

I remember transplanting the story to Wales when I read the first book in print format so it's really weird hearing all the American accents!! And I'm just going to continue ignoring any and all descriptions of Gansey. I'm sorry but I just can't imagine him as a muscly tanned white boy!
At least I now know I was pronouncing "Czerny" correctly.
