Abhyuday is on page 20 of 262 of Overcoming Empire in Post-Imperial East Asia: Repatriation, Redress and Rebuilding (SOAS Studies in Modern and Contemporary Japan)
The setup and overview in the editor's introduction are compelling and so is the case presented in the first chapter
I'm really optimistic about this one and am legitimately hoping against hope that it doesn't go the way that The Bhutto Dynasty in my eyes

Actually spent a considerable amount of time delving into the preface and intro it's quite interesting in that it covers a range of subjects all at once (I am treating this as some sort of mental fodder for the remaining exams when I have no motivation whatsoever to study the actual syllabus anyways)

Seeing how the other half lives (Paper 3 takers). It's very bizarre, a strange mix of Death of a Salesman's ideas and the character traits of the people in The Great Gatsby is the best way I can put it -- aiming to finish this by noon tomorrow let's see how it goes

Started this on Thursday, but only managed a respectable dent into it by today. I love it already, especially the last part of Chapter 5 where Austen just pops off about novels. Also, she is amazing at making you hate characters, one chapter into Mrs Allens' introduction I already was like "ok this is basically Mrs Bennet v2.0". Currently running at 5/5 it's massively entertaining and everyone should read it.

Consequence of reading this at 3am is that you don't understand a particular characterisation and you think that the guy is literally a table. What. This book is like FW but in normal English

Paused reading because this reminds me of overt and covert prestige what with h-dropping mentioned at least once in stage directions and then "This man takes more trouble to drop his aitches than ever his father did to pick them up"

Shaw introducing characters is so funny like I get it it's his style to write one page of stage direction detailing the character including things the audience cannot pick up on AT ALL like: "He must, one thinks, be the jeune premier; for it is not in reason to suppose that a second such attractive male figure should appear in one story"; "the restless blue eye, just the thirty-secondth of an inch too wide open"

0 Progress but I wanted to say that the premise of this book is so interesting because like as the back says it frames history in stats rather than stories which is Not a thing I'm very used to so this will end up being used for QB i guess

I just wanted to comment that I find it hilarious how the same person appears to have left a one-star review from two accounts based on the same gripe that one map has an inaccuracy in it - the book is as much about the maps as it is about the actual history being described, anonymous user

Finished the primary text, but I still want to go through the attached source material extracts (Amleth by Saxo Grammaticus; The Hystorie of Hamblet, Prince of Denmarke by Belleforest) and some of the essays, particularly those of Samuel Johnson, T. S. Eliot, and Jacqueline Rose (for which I'll need to read Measure for Measure).

Reminds me of Experiment on Air Pump and I told Mrs Perry about it and she was interested and perturbed alike - fair enough it's a disturbing play. Anyways the time skip and period moving so far has worked rather well, there is constant reference by Hannah and Bernard to Septimus and Chater, and I like Stoppard's choice of book permanence across time and space

Actually 0% but I wanted to say a few things before I delved into it. One that this series of "Great Ideas" books by Penguin is equal parts based and messed up, from Seneca to Schopenhauer - I think I'll peruse the entire series many of the 20 books in it accompanied this one on the shelf I plucked it from anyways

I had to reborrow from SFL which tends to stock casebooks and guides instead of actual texts so I had to borrow this, 49 is 49/101 of the actual play, maybe I'll read the critical essays at the back if I feel like it, there's stuff by TS Eliot and DH Lawrence. Additionally they lumped in Shakespeare's source material which is always interesting.
