There's a lot of excellent documents in here but man the lack of professional editing present really makes the content difficult to follow.

Idk there’s a lot of talk about perception of the self in and of itself and how that relates to consciousness while simultaneously coming to terms with the existence of the Other in and of itself and their perception of you right now and it’s hurting my head. Perfect theme for watching Fight Club for the first time though.

"The origin of the work of art, that is, the origin of both the creators and the preservers, which is to say of a people's historical existence, is art. This is so because art is by nature an origin: a distinctive way in which truth comes into being, that is, becomes historical."

I fucking hate the fact that this was written so succinctly by Heidegger of all people goddamnit.

Me - "So when does this all start to make sense?"
The book - "That's the neat part, it doesn't."

Oh my god I think Caputo made me somewhat understand Derrida and deconstruction. Since when does that happen??

Goddamn this book loses me for a while with some of the most batshit braindump essays and then pulls me back in for something that's actually interesting. Not saying it makes sense. Just interesting.

“We practice the cult of security, society’s true religion, and we perpetuate the memory of the Holocaust. You can enjoy yourself in Israel and also play the victim; party and gripe. Where else is there a place like this?” - Gideon Levy

Anytime Palestinian civilians are murdered by the IOF in any way, whether it be an impromptu arrest for a crime they never committed, or an air strike landing in homes, there is zero accountability, and always “there were serious failures in how it was handled”. Every time. This book is short but the amount of “serious failures” being listed as a reason for atrocities is countless.

“Anyone who justifies this war also justifies all of its crimes. Anyone who sees it as a defensive ear must bear the moral responsibility for its consequences. Anyone who now encourages the politicians and the army to continue will also have to bear the mark of Cain that will be branded on his forehead after the war. All those who support the war also support the horror.”
