icl, i’m not enjoying it at all. glazing it.

bloodchild was entirely too much like lillth’s brood but the gender swap caught me out. i think octavia would have deffo been trans if she was born a little later sorry. i am enjoying them and the stories are the perfect length to be read over breakfast. my favourite so far is The Evening and the Morning and the Night. The pacing was perfect.

getting very repetitive now, using it for the historic eco-colonial case studies and black studies paraphrasing mostly. i could skim and milk the bibliography but i’m haunted by my dnfs.

god i posted a quote to my stories and my crush + circle fell on her like wolves. apparently an appropriator of black thought which is ironic bc the whole book is about extraction (i swear none of them
will touch the kingdom of heaven). now i’ve been warned about it i can’t unsee it; wynter this, as moten says that, tempted to dnf and use as a bibliography but stubborn about wanting to see what her conclusion is

been dabbling in and out non-seriously for months because this is not a serious book (in a wonderful and surrealist way). in a period of seeking emotional escape and poetic fragmentation (routes to breathe via surrealism) and i’m having a whale of a time and this is my evening companion. the descriptions are sharp and the characters palpable i love the way the sentences are just not sequential it’s so comforting

swimming in it now, still resistant toward some the metaphors towards blackness and energy sources (the Black coal sentence made me roll my eyes) but i understand how it’s being used for illustration of elided colonial frameworks rather than collusion and so ultimately we can and are still strapped in for this ride.

the themes i’m engaging in are too big for short stories, so fucking real but also idk! condensing larger thematic to image is harder to do but not impossible and you did it babes.

it’s been a while since i stretched like this, feels good

we’ve finally finally finally landed and we’re getting all of the trans metaphors and language that i adore. i was worried there wouldn’t be any payoff after two literal cliffhangers but i’m comfortably seated and very relieved

5 books behind schedule so cheating with some Penguin modern classics to make up ground.
