During puberty, the circadian rhythm of teenagers is pushed forward. This means teens will not be able to sleep until much later in the night.
Another interesting thing is that sleep (specifically NREM) is crucial during the development stages. So much that it helps with maturity in the frontal lobe. Lack of sleep at this point has lead to the development of schizophrenia.
