About an hour in, not starting strong - My guess is that this is going to have some stupid multiple personalities type twist.

This is such a weird premise... Dude is grooming this girl since she was 8 because it was "predestined".

I wish there was more world building... Why is only Louisiana the only free place? She sets that there are other countries, but hasn't discussed anything west of TX.

Reads like the Federalist papers, point and counterpoint of every idea of why whaling is a great and noble profession. Point and counter point that a whale is actually a fish.

The first hour is just the narrator complaining how he doesn't want to share a bed.
