Still chipping away at this one on audiobook. Despite the hundreds of thousands of ratings, I'm surprised at how this one is under the radar, at least in circles I'm in. Skloot's comprehensive research on Henrietta and the Lacks family is still important today, and will continue to remain important.

Already falling in love again with the prose!

Considering how short this book is, it has the pace of molasses. Yet, I’m engrossed by every word!

I need to read more Conrad!

Re-reading for Modernist Writers! I’m already so much more in love on a second read, even though it was about 7 months ago that I first read this! Conrad’s prose is simply perfect, and never lacks some illusion to the utter horrors of Congo trade and colonialism. This is one of the few books I’d be really interested in reading some critical theorists takes on this, beyond just post colonialism.

Phenomenal, as always!

Also, I don’t think I’ll ever find a book like this one again. This is a treasure to be revisited, to be reminded that such a balance between what is seen as secular and sacred can actually exist!

From meat, to metaphysics, to knives, Capon somehow keeps my attention no matter the subject! He’s the only author I can think of that I’d be truly curious to read his grocery list—his wit and passion for cooking and food would likely shine through even in something so simple!

Enthralling. I’m loving every second of this odd and wonderful cookbook.

It just felt right to bring this along to read in Italy!

One minute it’s 10pm and the next minute it’s 12:30 and you have ten pages left in your book. Oops.

So glad to be coming back to this after so long! I’m really gonna miss not being able to attend Sabbath School on the first few chapters.

Finally getting back into this eccentric collection. “Pretty Mouth and Green my Eyes” didn’t do much for me, I wish I had read it with someone else to discuss it with. After reading a forum on it here on Goodreads I grasped what Salinger was doing in this story, but it felt cheap to let someone else reach the conclusion for me (why I enjoy reading with others—you gain so much more out of a story!).

I… have thoughts. I LOVE HAYTE THOUGH. Best character in either of the books.
