The single major flaw in this book so far is that it indicates Calvin grew up “in the middle of Iowa” and we later learn the boys home in which he lived was located in Sioux City. Sioux City is very much not in the center of the state. In fact, it’s in the northwest corner, and you could walk to either South Dakota or Nebraska from the city’s downtown. (I take my Iowa facts seriously).

I’m not far in but this is giving me academia meets Indiana Jones (or National Treasure) minus colonialism and America worship. I’m so excited to see where this adventure goes.
