I SO wanted to read this book as I live in the SW of France and figured I would be completely familiar with this reporter's territory and tales. Well, I am, but I am struggling to get past his boring stories of local futbol coaches, his puffed-up accounts of meetings with insignificant local authorities, his tales of drunken driving after wine-soaked lunches, and his constant hints of being a local Lothario.

I'm loving this book. It's carefully and accurately researched, it weaves together the narratives of the characters beautifully, and it's written in compelling, evocative, and lyrical language that paints beautiful pictures in the mind of the reader.

I'm not going to bother reading more of this. What's to like about a puerile story full of misinformation and misspellings?

Was wondering myself how the new coffee vendor in the market would fare with "Fauquet" so close by. Now I guess I know! Must go try a café avec chocolat!
