💔I just cried my eyes out for little Sammy 😭

Watching her run with James and Norman little confused was one of my favourite parts of the book! seeing things for the first time, even something as simple as river; That innocence made her feel incredibly precious. It’s heartbreaking how briefly she gets to experience that sense of freedom 😭

enjoying this book, it is sad but also very Real; that James has to constantly navigate 2 identities:
the self he truly is and the self he must perform to survive.

It’s heartbreaking that Every new place she enters her mind makes her measure the possibility of escape

“I have been dead within and almost dead without”

This line carries enormous emotional weight. I think it’s one of Susanna Clarke’s most heartbreaking descriptions of a life caught between two worlds.

Halfway through The Bell Jar; Esther feels passive, more like an observer than a participant in her own life atm
