Sean is on page 65 of 256 of Useful Delusions: The Power and Paradox of the Self-Deceiving Brain
“It’s a grave mistake to think that evolution is remotely interested in helping us perceive reality accurately. Natural selection has one simple standard: Evolutionarily ‘fitness’ is about whatever helps us survive and pass on our genes.”

Sean is on page 9 of 128 of White Lotus: An Explanation of the Seven-line Prayer to Guru Padmasambhava
From the introduction by Padmakara Translation Group:

“It may be difficult to believe, for example, that Guru Rinpoche was a thousand years old when he arrived in Tibet, or that he is still alive on an island somewhere to the southwest of Mount Meru. But one thing seems certain: we will never succeed in understanding anything if we begin with the decision that it is impossible.”

Sean is on page 47 of 224 of The Universe in a Single Atom: The Convergence of Science and Spirituality
In the introduction to the book, HHDL writes: "My confidence in venturing into science lies in my basic belief that as in science so in Buddhism, understanding the nature of reality is pursued by means of critical investigation: if scientific analysis were conclusively to demonstrate certain claims in Buddhism to be false, then we must accept the findings of science and abandon those claims."

Beginning of Part Four. Can't seem to put this book down. Fascinatingly vivid writing about Mumbai and Bharata Ganarajya, and a story that pulls the on the heartstrings of the Indian in each of us.

Not since I stumbled upon the Chronicles of Narnia as an awkward 9-year-old in the rural South have I been so enthralled by a book. Gregory David Roberts is, by far, the most talented writer I have ever encountered. In the first 300 pages of the book, he has described the eyes of the woman he loved, with each description bringing a fresh and brilliant insight, and rarely using the same words twice.

I have to keep reminding myself that this was written 600 years ago...Rigpa Translations gives us a fantastically accessible text that seems especially written for Westerners.

It is rare to escape the eight states lacking opportunity. It is rare to become a human being. It is rare to find perfect freedom. It is rare for a buddha to appear… –from the Gaṇḍavyūha Sutra
