I'm so invested in this love story between two people I have never met and their three little girls who are the Princesses of Space.

Biggest takeaway: abolish prisons!

My girl Annie made it out, let's go!! I'm very proud of this AI badass.

The concept of having children with your lover just to harvest their organs and consume them for your own sexual pleasure is truly sickening (and it was also the only redeeming part of this entire story)

All of the side characters blended together, and the romance itself was underwhelming (also, that ending was cheeeeezzzyyyy)

I feel like most of the ideas presented in this book were things I was already aware of by the age of 10, but bell hooks actually put them into words, so props to her, I guess

Forever grateful that I escaped Catholic guilt and confronted my internalized ableism. Also, I really loved this line that Cesar's therapist said to him: "When you live only to avoid the grief of people you love, you end up shouldering all that grief on your own, mourning yourself while you're still here."

This genuinely disturbed me, and while I would love to unzip my skin suit and never think about this book again, that is simply not possible. If you need an excuse to end it all, I'd highly recommend giving this a read.

Bye, Bye Sadness, 2.5 stars. To experience real happiness, we need to experience real sadness. Have we learned NOTHING from Brave New World?!

The Unknown Writer, 2 stars. Unfortunately books don't sell as well as funny dog videos or sex.

We See You, 3 stars. Scary, how quickly we become so desensitized to acts of violence against women, so much so that instead of preventing it, we film it.

Love, the Way God Intended, 4 stars. Why guns and pocketknives are more normalized in schools but than books depicting queer and trans people is beyond me.

A Baby is Born, 4 stars. Whoever thought that capitalism and advertising have a place in parenthood was a freaking idiot.

The Termination Bureau, 4 stars. Absolutely horrific, how the productivity and exploitability of unborn bodies for the state are seen as more valuable than actually living people, who are treated as nothing more than carriers of men's property. This one made me nauseous.

The Crumbling of a Nation, 2 stars. Once the environment is gone and capitalism has won out, every recreation of our prior reality will fall short.

Preparing to Die, 3 stars. Death really is a business.

It Was Just Another Day in America, 3.5 stars. Scarily realistic (both the normalization of gun violence in schools and our country's way of addressing it by integrating police, military bunkers, and guns into every aspect of our lives).

A Million Times Over Again, 2 stars. Soulmate stories are just not my thing.

Amber's Son, 3 stars. Does the United States really need protecting?

Tommy Longhorn, 3 stars. Loved the set-up for a space-exploring alien trying to find the good on Earth, but a mass shooting for the ending?! And a really poorly-written ending, too? Really?

i read this entire book in a day, largely while sitting by the pool (the sunburn was worth it)

reading this was like watching a segment of toni and candace on portlandia
