The Unknown Writer, 2 stars. Unfortunately books don't sell as well as funny dog videos or sex.

We See You, 3 stars. Scary, how quickly we become so desensitized to acts of violence against women, so much so that instead of preventing it, we film it.

Love, the Way God Intended, 4 stars. Why guns and pocketknives are more normalized in schools but than books depicting queer and trans people is beyond me.

A Baby is Born, 4 stars. Whoever thought that capitalism and advertising have a place in parenthood was a freaking idiot.

The Termination Bureau, 4 stars. Absolutely horrific, how the productivity and exploitability of unborn bodies for the state are seen as more valuable than actually living people, who are treated as nothing more than carriers of men's property. This one made me nauseous.

The Crumbling of a Nation, 2 stars. Once the environment is gone and capitalism has won out, every recreation of our prior reality will fall short.

Preparing to Die, 3 stars. Death really is a business.

It Was Just Another Day in America, 3.5 stars. Scarily realistic (both the normalization of gun violence in schools and our country's way of addressing it by integrating police, military bunkers, and guns into every aspect of our lives).

A Million Times Over Again, 2 stars. Soulmate stories are just not my thing.

Amber's Son, 3 stars. Does the United States really need protecting?

Tommy Longhorn, 3 stars. Loved the set-up for a space-exploring alien trying to find the good on Earth, but a mass shooting for the ending?! And a really poorly-written ending, too? Really?

i actually kinda hated this

i read this entire book in a day, largely while sitting by the pool (the sunburn was worth it)
