First "I've been there" moment. Page 105. Chris is talking about being wheeled outside - literally outdoors - while in the hospital. Felt the same way when I was wheeled out onto the deck at Aurora St. Luke's back in June 2009. No words.

With lots of additional material from the original publication. Obviously one of his earliest books, but still a quick read. Got through most of it during vacation.

Emotional story about Matthew's life, his murder, and the hope that has become the Matthew Shephard Foundation.

Only have cried once, reading about how Judy might have had her first "suspicion" when Matthew was a little boy, worrying about how other people felt, not something a boy of 5 years old typically might think of. Hmmm...

The anniversary of Matthew's death is coming up on October 12. Reading his mom's book.

Suggested by a friend. Started tonight. It's a small book - but so far, more meaning - at least to me - than a lot I've read lately.

The more I read, the more I consider myself so fortunate for not having probably become an HIV+ individual before 1999. Words that describe "abyss" - to its' fullest definition - from everyone interviewed. Hard for everyone to read - but truly harrowing for those of us who are living with HIV.

After a lonnnngggg scientific breakdown of the who, what, when, where & why the interviews with the 15 men were conducted - just finished with half of the initial introductions. Just after these very brief intros, I'm amazed at how I can relate to so many facets of their stories.

I got teary-eyed just reading the Foreward and the Preface. Will remember to take deep breaths. Onward.

Will finish it this week. Incredible essays with historical & still-to-come perspectives.

Getting to the juicy stuff...

Inspiring essays from many folks affected by HIV/AIDS. Looking forward to reading more of this book.
