I'm reading this book out loud to my husband because he's not a reader, and because we both love Stephen King and because it's something we can do and discuss together rather than watching TV or arguing about politics or money.

I have to take back a bit of what I said about Ms. Springer's splendid research. She mentioned Lancelot, a huge gaffe for a serious arthurian novelist since Lancelot was a purely fictional creation of romance writers of the 14th century. It was only a brief reference to him though and I'm still enjoying her tale of Mordred and overlooking the one mention of Lancelot. I love the peek into the mind of Mordred.

I can already tell I'm going to give this book five stars. It's only 184 pages but I can tell Nancy Springer spent 100s of hours over several years researching this book. Books based on the Arthur legends do not often impress me because what the authors write just often goes against the little bit of true history available in this area. This is true of The Mists of Avalon for instance.

This is a quicker read than most. Hiassen novels are like this -- easy to read.

Looks like another good one from one of my very favorite writers. Very realistic fiction.

I'm savoring this story, it's delicious. A story filled with smaller stories and with magic.

Really hooked now, anxious for the welfare of characters to whom I have grown attached.

I love when a novel picks up speed of the action at just the right pace. I haven't enjoyed a read this much in a long time.

This is a scary book for me so far. I'm currently writing a fantasy novel featuring Arthurs's father, Uther Pendragon, as one of the main characters. I shall read Halsall's nonfiction research to make sure my book doesn't appear silly to English History buffs.
