ok picking this up a YEAR later as an audiobook after not enjoying the first ½ … I am liking it more I think? idk I should really restart, but I can’t be bothered. for context I loved the 1st book and didn’t care for the 2nd. I still do not get the helene love (she’s a white woman reluctantly, but proudly, upholding the empire. ig ill see. we did just get a REVEAL that was great tho!

okay this book is giving me whiplash I will like it, then be frustrated, then like it again lol. Reid does love red cheeks and dropped bellies… the overuse of this is making my eyes hurt from rolling them lol. besides that, my main issue has been Effy’s prejudice (and mildly annoying personality lol). but I am liking the theme discussions.

honestly… so far, I am surprised this received so much hype. if this wasn’t one of my most anticipated reads I might have even dnf’d & I hate to dnf. there are a few aspects that are good like some of the metaphors and atmosphere (though something about this lacks for me too). I’ll hold my tongue on the negatives until I finish.

I checked and she uses “cheeks” 54 times in this book even though there’s only 17 chapters …

enjoying the second book a lot more so far! I was hesitant to continue the series, but I couldn’t stop thinking about the whimsy!!!
