feeling the importance of a single person’s move very much now & how things may not always go to plan but with patience it turns out. Edna has just decided to leave her family, moving to London to work at a psychiatric hospital where she meets Willie. Her mother, Esther has just passed - meaning she is in Wales again. Willie is taking another girl to the dances, currently unsure of how they get back together

wonderful. i have just met Hannah, Aneria’s great grandmother on her father’s side & learnt of the exceptional work she did as the local midwife, & threat career her son, Johnny the lad, brought, leading American exile.
I’m realising affection boys, & beauty of having many children, & many sons & way romance grew with midsummer wild flowers & poured outofpeople likefreshlyhomemadelemonadeatthelocalsummer fair

lovely. the Battle of Athens has just happened and lots of descriptions of
planes and military life that are taking me back in time and feels very relevant to the kinda odd world we find ourselves in today. this is day 4 of my self-isolation against the Corona virus

sat under the shelter of tree down side of medieval lake (far out lake). biting cold and slightly windy. Toad has reunited with Ratty, then Badger then Mole. confused as to his character - shamefully proud. spoke to kevin for 20 mins about Austria, pancakes, Rich’ art. and David for a min about Corona and my ‘world trip’

splendid. sat in line with the north east polo at thenford on the stone bench. only looked up 2-3 times, once to see the nature around. i waited for a second, almost losing hope of my expectations for the nature to come as desired, and then a swallow, fell from a tree and rose with ease.
Toad was filling my heart with excitement, before he got ahead of himself and let everything come tumbling down again, driving!

So lovely. The swallows told Rat about their calling to the South, & how their blood dances to different music at that time of year - a calling for them to flee. Toad escaped prison w/t help of the engine worker & is presently lost in the woods. The focus has since cut back to Rat who, now titled as Water Rat, is sharing a thoughtfully put together picnic with Sea Rat & listening to his stories of boarding harbours.

brilliant, but am forgetting where they last encountered Toad & Badger - Badger who just came in and initiated a soul-refining intervention against the criminal wrecklessness of car-mobile obsessed Toad.

Wonderful. just found out on page 128 Dahl became very good friends with David Coke - the son of Thomas Coke who I have a postcard of and lived at Holkham Hall, where I’ve visited in Norfolk
