Reverted back to the audiobook for this one, couldn't stand the way the pages just fell out of the binding on the print version. So far, Skippy and the merry band of pirates are a tour of the galaxy, an ass kicking tour, and their getting some pay back on those pesky folks who have treated humanity badly. Currently their reaching some "keepers" humans who chose poorly in the war and sided with the bad guys.

Man, just shoot this Pablo guy already. He's getting on my nerves. A snowstorm, tension in a darkened cave and flashsideways to Madrid. The tension continues to build. Is Pablo a drunken fool, an ally, a traitor? Ahh time shall tell my friends, time shall tell.

This book slowly reveals Itself to be a snapshot of only a few days of life. Meeting the other leader, the conflicted feelings of self worth Robert has using these people to achieve his mission of blowing the bridge, knowing his actions will likely kill them. His feelings of being an outsider in another's war. The own self doubt of his actions and creeping self doubt at the futility of life in a war zone.

My first time with Hemmingway and it's interesting so far. I'm surprised at the prose, but not in a negative way. Also, this can be a bit brutal, but I guess showing the horrors of war with the descriptions of the gauntlet of Ayuntamiento were quite useful in that respect.

This is not the type of book I normally read. It's old (1907 edition) and a western. But I got it for about 2.33 at an estate sale. It contains some of the most beautiful discription of landscape I've ever heard. Quite an ability to paint a scene. The book itself is a bit sluggish so far.

A lot has happened so far, and I'm only 19% through the book. The civil war rages, grant has found his calling as a no nonsense go get dem somnabitch rebels general. Standing out as one of the few aggressive generals so far in the war. Still plagued by rumors (some may be true) of drinking. He sorta won Shiloh, and is now on the march for Vicksburg to conquer the Mississippi. A good read so far.

Grants had an interesting life so far, a quiet man with a braggadocio father. So far he's went to west point, fought bravely in the mexican american war and battled alcoholism. Right now he's left the army (broke) and returned home to farming. He's a deeply flawed man in many ways.

But aren't we all?

This is a giant book, and I doubt I'll be able to finish it in the few days I have left, but some good highlights so far on grants early life.

So far its interesting. Several characters on a journey to the planet Hyperion and each one is giving a long interesting back story. But the actual story is moving quite slow...probably why there are multiple books. So far on back story 2 of many. Lets see if anything actually happens this book.

This has been one of the worst things I've ever tried to read. From the duetoromney like descriptions of characters on the second page, to the constant need to use brand names and detailed weapons descriptions (why say m16a2 5.56mm rifle instead of just m16? Or just rifle)To horrendous editing (what's a teen ager?)

A complex list of characters that are straight boring as cardboard. Lord help me as I push through.

This has started to turn into a slog, both the short PI man and the longer flowered thundermug were exceedingly difficult to get into. With me abandoning the last 10 pages of thundermug. Despite an interesting premise(a brave new world style Hollywood inspired post apocalyptic America) with two characters somehow sent from just the attack into a future led by morons. I just...cant get into it.
