Took some time, but I am thoroughly engaged in the book now.

Seems to me like my original dislike stemmed more from my ignorance of China's history, What felt to me like collegian hyperbole was more in line with actual history and an actual important backdrop to one of the character's motivations.

The Netflix show gave me elements to support my reading and the book is improves my enjoyment of the NF interpretation.

I had stopped reading it originally.., the writing was not engaging to me... felt like reading collegial novellas (ones I would have written back then) and it just took me out of the story.

The Netflix series got me engaged and curious enough to pick the book back where I had left it.

The story has some very cool sci-fi elements and I'm thoroughly enjoying it now that I better understand the ride I am on.

Starting to get into it...
