I’m sad it’s taking me so long to get through this one. It’s not bad by any means, but Jordan is weaving so many separate threads that it can get a little tough to stay invested. When everything comes together, the payoff is worth it, but for now, the trudge is real. Not aided by not being in much of a reading mood lately. Trying to work on that…

Enjoying getting some history of Japan through these tales (particularly their explanations) and getting to have a better understanding of all the country went through in the past in order for them to be written. Imagine it all in Kyota Ko’s voice makes it all the more entertaining.

Good tales and rich background. A great change of pace from my other current reads!

Just received this for my birthday. Really enjoying both the tales and the commentary on them by the author. This is a really neat way to learn more about Japan and its culture and history. Looking forward to what is to come!

This one is taking me a while. I don’t have a lot of attention span to lend to reading lately, and book 7 (for me) has dragged a bit up to this point. It’s not for lack of interesting things happening, but Jordan’s intense focus on so many things at once has a tendency to disrupt the flow of the story. Just a pinch more concision would help the story flow more smoothly (again, for me). Still a good read!

Really been struggling to read lately. If it hasn’t been for language study purposes, it’s been tough to engage with it or be interested. Thankfully, my brain has allowed me to return to reading this book after a long stint of no progress. I’m glad that’s the case, because the story has been quite good between the last time I read and now!

Pretty solid prologue. Couldn’t help but go ahead and start book seven after such an explosive ending in book 6. Looking forward to seeing where Jordan takes this one and how the story develops. I thought I had an idea of where things may be by now when I finished book one, but I’ve been proved thoroughly wrong. So, I now claim to have no expectations in regards to story and character progression!

One more chapter (and a prologue)! Jordan really is saving the climax of this book right until then end. Good grief, the tension!!

2 more chapters. Big things have happened, but I get the feeling one of these final chapters is going to be huge. Oof

Ruh-roh

Hate having to stop mid-chapter!

Preparing to enter the final act of the book with 13 chapters remaining. The pieces are moving into place, but it feels like there is still so much left that can happen. Really curious (as always) how this will finish up!

So much of the complexity Jordan chose for the first half of this book is finally starting to pay off. In signature Robert Jordan fashion, there hasn’t been a dull chapter (so far) in the last 2/5 of the book. Looking forward to picking back up later!

Just a quick read while on break. Good stuff!

Pieces are falling into place. This has been a very complex story so far, but it’s finally starting to come together and make sense. Excited for the back fifth of the book!

Intrigue!

Snowball effect seems to be in motion. This story is starting to pick up!

Things are in motion and something is coming. Good to finally have some movement after a good bit of discourse.

Fascinating chapter on Japanese views of afterlife and memorialization of ancestors as well as how Christians (Protestant and Catholic) have adapted practices around these matters to “make sense” within Japanese society.

Such a dense read, but it contains fascinating insights nonetheless. So much of this I’ve witnessed to some degree or another personally, but I’m deeply appreciative of the opportunity to get a more in-depth, statistical view of Japanese thoughts and opinions on cultural/religious matters. Hoping to spend more time with this one than I have been lately.

I’ve really been taking my time with this one. The pace feels a bit uneven, which hasn’t helped. Nonetheless, it’s still been a good read so far. Lots of things happening right now that feel like they are going to continue to build up to a pretty exciting payoff in the end.

Slow going. My brain has wanted to do anything but read, but I’m glad to have returned to read a bit more, even if it’s a while before I read again. With any luck, I’ll finish this book this year. Lol

Hate having to stop mid-chapter. Really been struggling to read recently, so it’s good to get back to it, even if only for a few minutes.

Nothing like stopping in the middle of a chapter and not getting back to it for a while. Good to be back, though!

Already exciting times!

74-page prologue!!!

5 books into the series, and there has been a lot of buildup that has yet to find its payoff. This book is apparently where the majority of that payoff happens. I’ve heard that the ending is nothing short of phenomenal. Robert Jordan has so far proved that he can write very exciting scenes and incredible climaxes. Needless to say, my hopes are high.

So far, so good.

Amazing the things a fantasy novel can make you wish you were able to do. As if Inception didn’t make me want to be able to do cool things in dreams badly enough…
