Tender Is the Flesh
I hate it. I don’t remember how I learned about this book, but it’s got me feeling. Confusing, disgust, nausea, and every once in a while there’s something beautiful that keeps me going.

Well this is disturbing and depressing. As much as I’d enjoy thinking this would never happen, I can no longer say it with conviction.

Path Lit by Lightning: The Life of Jim Thorpe
Excellent insight into the world of Jim Thorpe and his life so far, especially the last 100 pages or so. The first 80-100 was a very interesting expose on the people and institutions that affected Thorpe, but were slow paced and would’ve been better interspersed during the relevant timeline.

We watch Clytemnestra get beaten and get back up worse for wear over and over.

Nothing to See Here
The kids burst into fire. The book is not solely about this, it’s much more than that. It’s about life and the opportunities we have and do not have. So I know that the kids aren’t the main focus. Yet how is this not talked about more by the characters. It feels like every page should be dedicated to discussing the insane fact that the children can burst into flames.

Some weird meta dialogue that I’m not understanding, it may be leading somewhere. Also jumps around a bit too quick. Still enjoyable

Fourth Wing (The Empyrean, #1)
The dragons are cool, but the other 80% of the book being about Violets lust for Xaren is too much. She’s supposed to be a badass with the best dragon and she’s literally always distracted.

Every page Violet is daydreaming about Dain or Xaden. Not a fan of how distracted she is when she didn’t seem to have much talent. Seems obvious she’s going to get the black dragon and the best signet.

I like it when Rin indulges in using her powers and going a little crazy. I feel like at the end Kitay is going to have to put her down though.

I really enjoy the grey characters. The Hesperian are obviously the villains, but their futuristic tech and cleanliness are obvious upgrades to the Nikara way of life. Very disappointed with Nezha. Rin has obvious PTSD, and the war is not glorified.
