I’ll be honest—I struggled to get into this one at first. Around 12%, I finally started to understand Jenny, and learning more about her past and what she’s endured to get here is what hooked me. Now, nearing the halfway point, the suspense is building and I’m loving the twists and turns!
The cracks are starting to show…

Not every story demands your attention immediately.
Some draw you in slowly... almost imperceptibly.
That's where I am with this one. The opening was a slow burn for me, but now I'm connecting with the main character, and I can feel something unsettling beginning to take shape.

I'm officially invested.
I'll report back from the shadows.

Absolutely loved this book!

6/29/24: I am getting so invested in this story! It brings back that nostalgic feel of my childhood summers in the 90s when we all would play outside until the streetlights came on, when we would play in the woods and explore whatever we found there.
This is one of the best books of summer so far! Especially when it puts you back into the summers of your childhood..... Well done Mr. Sager 👏🏼

The nostalgic feel of backyard camping as a kid and those lazy, hazy summer days....

I really liked this book. It kept mystery alive up to the very end and I have to say that I figured out the ending pretty quick but it was still a quick fun read.

I really loved the premise of this book. The spiritualism movement has fascinated me since I could remember. And this book took me right back to Edinburgh in the 1920s. The feel of being back in the opulence of the 1920s but to also be witness to a family like so many others that lost almost everything to the war and Spanish Flu. The way the author was able to put me in this place and time is why I loved this book.

I absolutely love how this book brings you right back to the 1920s world of spiritualism. The emotional turmoil of losing so many to not only WWI but also the Spanish Flu. We are welcomed into a family that is dealing with the loss but also one of their loved ones now claiming to hear "angels". I'm enthralled.

I am deeply enthralled by this story of not only survival from beasts but survival of the life you choose to live instead of the life chosen for you in those days. This book married my love for horror and historical fiction. I cannot get enough!!!!!
