So much detail and awesome stories about the development of Silicon Valley, Intel, personal computers, etc. Amazing book.

Back for a re-read of this classic. Was recommended to me by my nuclear physics lecturer back in 2002. And he was right, it’s a great book.

Some good history in this book, and now I’m in the mid-chapters there’s some interesting ideas. I’m beginning to conclude that most of the first few decades of AI research was just people chasing their tails, but at least we appear to be getting somewhere with the latest approaches like deep neural nets and machine learning.

Intriguing, this one. The author is a perfect storyteller. Can’t wait to see how the story plays out.

Getting to the good stuff

Insightful and moving as ever!

Didn’t know that Feynman did groundbreaking work on all four of the fundamental forces of nature: electromagnetism (QED), the strong and weak nuclear forces, and gravity. And superfluidity! A nice book.

Detailed biography with great explanations of physics thrown in. A little sycophantic towards Feynman, but perhaps he was such a fine man!

Fascinating history of computing. Highly recommend!

An unexpected gem, this book. History of computing from Babbages engines, punched card machines, the ENIAC and everything after. Just my cup o’ tea, bloody fascinating!!

Not sure I agree with half of what’s said in this book but it’s an interesting set of ideas about AI and our robot future. Thanks for the recommendation Bill Gates :)

Bloody amazing history of computing. Love it so far! Great for my geeky brain.
