haha, whoops I looked at my reviews for books 2 & 3 in this series... a full re-read might not be happening! But I'm gonna resolve that ending at least.

palate cleanser fluff so as to not completely overload on DA. I still hate that I like paladins. -_-

First story, the character voices are... mixed. Varric is pretty right-on, but Alistair and Isabela have a serious case of the boilerplate-comic-book voice. They also look different on every page. :( And I don't like Alistair being king. :( But that's no one's fault but my own.

Nope, page 5 and Rowan is already stated to be dead. Sadness.

I hate when things get repeatedly cataclysmic. -_- There are only so many times an "entire" army can be wiped out. Like in that Star Trek Destiny trilogy... it's frustrating and overtly manipulative and please stop. It's okay to have minor crises that don't require thousands of people to respawn instantaneously. ... even if this is based on a video game.....

Please, author--remember that she's 16... please...

The tone is... super 90s-masculine so far. Not hurting the story or anything, but... wow, strong tone.

I'm making slow progress, but this book covers all kinds of navigation. Starts with straightforward stuff, moves into how we might or might not feel comfortable in certain rooms of our houses, shifts to city planning, more architectural stuff like navigating stores/airports/etc., and is now talking about navigating software and the internet (button placement, what might make things intuitive, etc.).

One of the things about old books like this... is I sometimes get caught up thinking about the different periods in history when people would have read this book. Published in 1860, this one goes back to the Civil War... so at least there are other "troubled times" to imagine people in, and I can maybe transpose myself onto a post-troubles person... I can believe it's possible for there to be a "post-troubles"...

This might not be the right time to start this book...the whole beginning so far is all the hunters in a village dying and the ~10 remaining people living in famine and starting to starve to death ten years later...

So far the tone of this is sort of... Jane Austen with creeping horror, and scifi trimmings. With some peak LeGuinian social anthropology and Atwood religion cynicism thrown in.

There are SO MANY characters in this... three different main ships, all with expanded non-TV crews... and how did Ezri make captain before Worf?!?! Still in wait-and-see mode on this trilogy...
