The idea of vampires relieving their fangs by chomping on Italian lemons is amazing 🍋

This book finally had a glimmer of joy amid so much tragedy and trauma and it feels like it's slipping away, I don't know how much more I can handle in the 100 pages left

Reading flash fiction is harder than it looks because I get whiplash with every page I turn almost since the plots are so drastically different

The writing is powerful but the story is very intense and trauma-heavy so I can't read this before bed... it reminded me a bit ot Callie's character in The Fosters (but of course this is non-fiction)

I love reading books and thinking of who I can gift them to next to keep the reading alive and nurtured in us all

I have the actual novel too, but I was gifted the comic version in 2021 since it's a Brazilian illustrator! It's a good refresher, makes the read less dense (within circumstances lol)

As an environmental historian, I also really appreciate all the writing about nature that this book has. It helps me get to know Taiwan as I'm really immersed in the place, experiencing all the different geological features, especially because the author dedicates a section to each of them (Dao -Island; Shan - Mountain/Hill; Shui - Water/River; Lin - Forest/Woods/Groce or a group of like persons)

2026 is my "reading all the physical books I've had for years in my shelf" era — this one is already promising too, lots of quotes about place and language and belonging and family already are resonating

This has nothing to do with the plot (no complaints so far) but this books typset is unnecessarily bothering me, like why is there so much blank space in the footer while the header is all creamed? Only after typesetting my own book I never read one the same way 😭😂

My friend gifted this book to me today and I'm already so invested in this storyworld! It's also giving me inspo to an essay I wrote and read in my alumni writing workshop today!
