A gripping tale of espionage that is a marked departure from the Heresy series. A creative introduction to Alpharius and Omegon. I enjoyed seeing the talents of the regular armies. John Grammaticus is worthy of a book of his own; I'd love to see past lives and past actions he has performed in service of the Cabal.

I did not find the child narration endearing. Whilst initially seeing the world through Jack's eyes is novel and unusual my interest dwindled. I would have loved to have seen a dual narrative that allows us to see events from Ma's perspective. Perhaps the subject matter was too unsettling for me.
