There are many parallels btwn modern bio educatjon (as I've experienced it) and the eugenics movement. Bio education places emphasis on:

- non instrumental value of bio as a science (as opposed to a policy making tool, political weapon)
- existence and importance of, evidence for, genetic diversity + exceptions to Mendelian genetics
- intellectual humility

I womder why we aren't taught more about this in class?

I expected a climbimg book.. ts is NOT a climbimg book, its a book with climbing content and thats very cool. Alpinist climbing is a medium thru which Richards seeks to channel his story, but only one medium amongst many others.

This book does tje same thing as many nontraditional sports media, which is using the sport as a canvas rarher than the subject. Which is awesome to me :3

Basically a possible intro for ANY sentence in a history of eugenics😭

History books are so cool!!! Though i understand that the general perception of them is as being dry, narrative, "textbook-y", this has not been the case for the handful of self-namedly historical texts

Another hamfisted excuse of mine to read eye catching books for "academic reasons"..

Upon reread, the names make a lot more sense!! I think I have a better vibe for the patronymics and nicknames and whatnot

I'm also taking it a lot slower than my first time

Though I'm reading this book at the speed of snail, I'm having a great time with it. I get to learn French, analyze interesting poems, and consume beautiful literature.
