Every arrogant monologue that comes out of Odysseus’s mouth makes me want to roll my eyes, like “Dude, get over yourself already” 🙄

And the characters who pander to him and praise him only serve to further stroke his insufferable ego. Penelope and Telemachus, you both deserve better.

Emily Wilson, on the other hand, is brilliant. Thoroughly enjoyed her in-depth introduction and translator’s brief.

Rereading this one after 7ish years and immediately remembering how much I loved it the first time around. Excited to re-experience the story which is almost more fun now that many of the details of the story have become hazy in my mind over the years.

Ugh, I really want to like this because I work in gastrointestinal endoscopy so I obviously love the subject matter. But so far it just feels like she keeps dropping supposedly sensational bits for the shock factor and then commenting on how weird she is for being interested in this stuff. Eye roll. I’ll try to get through it. Maybe it will get better. It’s also possible that her writing style is just not for me.
