Excellent. Nothing I could say in this review would be more eloquent than the jacket copy and reviews -do know that trauma triggers abound -

Phaedra
Phaedra is reading Our Little Cruelties
This was a slow burn of exactly what the title says ..little cruelties between family members. They’re all awful. I was still intrigued. It rang true that these characters were selfish and passive aggressive and didn’t know how to communicate and thereby committed terrible acts upon each other

Eddie Flynn for the win so far! Loving this character. I'm always a fan of the confidence man/hustler stories and this one is fun and fast.

about 100 pages in and what a collection of oddities... but I feel myself being pulled in slowly..ever so slowly... these characters are just so weird that I want to see what's going to become of them

Phaedra is starting Never Have I Ever
"People don’t insta-leap head first into cruelty or crime.... We have reasons and stories and excuses that allow us to creep all the way down to hell without recognizing the road we’re on; the most dangerous human superpower is our endless ability to justify. I love it when this truth seeps into fiction, because it creates such realistic villains and anti-heroes." -Joshilyn Jackson

Phaedra is starting In the Vines
ugh. the writing in this is so overblown and disjointed. Which is probably purposeful to keep the reader in the atmosphere of confusion along with the characters. However it makes the story convoluted and weirder than need be so far

Phaedra
Phaedra is 50% done with Small Great Things
Having seen reviews of this book not nailing the race issues as accurately as people of color would like, I do think Jodi Picoult got one thing correct. When Ruth asks her attorney, Kennedy
"What do you think about being white? "
"I don't."
All the things whites don't understand about racism summed up right here. We don't have to think about it. So for that? I give stars.

Phaedra
Phaedra is starting Circe
having always been fascinated with the Greek myths ( because.. hello? my name is Phaedra. That's a lifetime of people asking 'where does your name come from? what does it mean?' ) I was curious to go outside my usual mystery/crime genre (but, again, let's be honest. The Greek gods were fairly murderous, covetous, adulterous... there is plenty of crime to be had) and pick this book up. So far? LOVING IT!!

My God if Kitty isn't the most manipulative and conniving little social climber I've ever rooted for! Ha! Her plans are quite selfish and yet? One totally can relate to her motivations. NYC, Miami and Havana in 1953 are wonderful setting.

I'm not always for 'woo woo', but slowing the mind and practicing mindfulness & meditation and also opening one's self to the opportunities around us in a positive way has been great.

Phaedra
Phaedra is starting Macbeth
I know this is the first of the Hogarth Shakespeare program- I love Jo Nesbo, but this definitely is slightly more dense reading than his normal Nordic noir. That being said, I think the dark figures of Macbeth are coming through in their new setting of drugs/drug lords/city politicians. The overlap of politics, greed and nefarious deeds between Jo Nesbo's noir crime and Macbeth are clear
