Having followed Darryl Pinckney's NYRB essays for decades, I appreciate him as a superior author of the first order. Black Deutschland, his second novel, is brilliant, much better than the social science fiction the woke in commercial publishing have dumped on us recently. Why Pinckney hasn't garnered as much notice as they is beyond me, perhaps because his writing refuses the slavery of stereotype...
