Grover is begging and begging, but the heartless reader KEEPS TURNING THE PAGE, even though there is a MONSTER at the end of this book!!!!

This book is a real nail-biter. Grover has been beseeching the reader not to tur the page, but the reader refuses to comply...EVEN THOUGH literally EVERY page gets us closer to the MONSTER at the end of this book.

In deep suspense.
Frightened.
What will we do about the Beast at the end of this Tome?

A fairly disappointing take on a reasonably good concept.

The thing is, nobody really needed a terrible Holmes. Nobody really needed a devil takin over the characer.

Try "Holmes In Space", from the...90s? More fun all around.

K.W. Jeter's absolute hatred of Steampunk is a warning: He never claimed to own Steampunk, but he never wanted it to go into this monstrous direction, and his strange, compelling, horrifying giant robot-like, human-controlled cosplay machines, having sex, is a powerful metaphor for the destruction of his vision by politics.

I love K.W. Jeter, but I understand that I need to help carry on his legacy of dreams.

Brilliant Steampunk before Steampunk existed; but now it's time to move on to Villainpunk.

Did you ever come to the sudden, rather hilarious realization that it seems likely most people are able to read the entire book using the free preview?

Steampunk's pleasant, but Mad Victorian Fantasy rules the waves.

....maybe this is the time to come out and say it:

I still think this is the second-best Steampunk novel ever written, and I think "The Diamond Age", which I'd consider to be the best, is in a genre all its own, not quite competition.

But...

It's impossible to un-read "Fiendish Schemes", or un-know that, somewhere along the line, K.W. Jeter was going to really, really start to hate what Steampunk became.

The audiobook is coming along really well. I think I've said this before: I don't know if you're supposed to laugh at your own jokes, but it's happening a lot - maybe because Jordan is just such an excellent reader.

I feel really fortunate to have found Jordan--he's clearly got an amazing career ahead of him.

Also, as far as I can tell from the rolling Rs, his Dark Lord is at least slightly Scottish.

(This is quite real; I am re-reading the book as we prepare the audiobook.

Is it okay to laugh at your own jokes, as long as they're written down?)
