John is starting X-Men: Phalanx Covenant
The creation of the Third Genesis, Generation X. One of my favorite event series/comics. Read it when I was seven or so.

John is on page 10 of 1216 of DC Comics: The New 52
I'm reading this as a reflection on the successes and failures on the New 52 initiative. Frustrated that it was a reboot and kept the Fifth World from happening, but I genuinely enjoy that it tried comics that were outside the genre of superheroes.

John is reading Eternals: To Defy the Apocalypse
This spins off from Gaiman's "reboot".

I'm currently reading the Kirby/Gaiman/Knauf/Aaron/Gillen arcs.

John is reading Hulk: World War Hulk II
This is Pak's second swan song for the "Hulk:, the first with Bruce Banner (five years) with Heart of the Monster in 2011, and this second one (three years) with Amadeus Cho's turn as the character.

Afterwards, Jason Aaron and Mark Waid had some short runs until Ewing epic began.

John is on page 30 of 200 of Superman: The Coming of the Supermen
Tom Scioli once set-up the notion that Krypton was a New Genesis colony. And boy, does this remind me of that.

As with Batman: Odyssey -- this is not a good comic, but it's certainly a fun one.

I love the "weird" Batman stuff like this. When it's Legends of the Dark Knight. One-off anthologies. Elseworlds, etc.

John is on page 40 of 256 of Iron Man: Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. - Haunted
This is my favorite Iron Man arc, written by one of my favorite writers (Daniel Knauf of Carnivale).

"Haunted" probably isn't referring to Hauntology. But, it's about the failed potential of Tony Stark, Iron Man and the 50-State Initiative.

John is on page 125 of 624 of The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers Omnibus
I' have mixed feelings about most underground comics, but wanted to check it out after high praise.

While based on the "classic" structure of books like Little Orphan Annie, Krazy Kat, etc--this has NOT aged well. The jokes are crass and often mean-spirited.

John
John is starting Original Sin
The concept is ripe with potential; an unorthodox crossover event with lesser known/utilized characters. A who-dunnit that is creates the opportunity for a lot of secrets and retcons; which is kind of inspired.

Point One, 0.1 etc.

John is starting All-America Comix #1
Joe Casey is one of my favorite comicbook iconoclasts. He talks a great game, but never quite lines it up. He's working a very meta/creator-rights angle here (Howard/Destroyer Duck). Yet, its a character and angle that's dated and he's perhaps too old to tackle...

I loved Vengeance, and particularly Ms. America Chavez, Young Avengers and Al Ewings Ultimates. Gabby Rivera's run was fun but not for me.

John is starting Tales from the Dark Multiverse
Reading mostly as a partial swan song to the DCU. Final Crisis ended with so much promise. Flashpoint then created a fallen world where the legacy of the past and future were missing. Rebirth saved it but also opened up Pandora's Box. Metal found it's soul. Doomsday Clock broke it.

And now this is setting up for the Anti-Crisis, Death Metal and Fifth World.
