Durbin's Carlise and Holbrooke series can be favorably compared to Aubry and Maturin. Durbin accelerates the pacing, he books are somewhat shorter, and the prose is more workmanlike. But if you like a rousing story, with reliable veracity for the period, then this is a good 'un. I'm having a great deal of fun with Durbin's work!
