Second time ive heard this quote in a week. Where was it? The Bear maybe?

That is the reason why passion is worth something, not for what it gives us, but for what it demands that we risk. Our dignity. The puzzlement of others and their condescending, shaking heads.

Chapter 234….FINALLY an answer to a question

I know we settled on this since it “a man’s book” but I’m not sure I understand the drive of this guy. I don’t know if Grace is real or not.

She was constellations he could not map. She was beautiful and hateful, thunderclouds, and summer rain.

Once again, Mr Klune, you have filled my eyes with tears by somehow describing a most beautiful scene that I wish I could experience.

I could easily quit this book. It reads like a YA story where every single thought the character has is spelled out for you…like the first couple of Harry Potter books 🙄
Still…I’m curious to see how the murder resolves so I’ll power thru.

Indeed.

It is wildly confusing that the narrator would change to a different character without a new chapter starting. It’s a really challenging to pit this down and then remember who is speaking a few days later.

Ok, so she moved back to Illinois but where? We have to know about her travels and family home and this crap, but when she is back in Illinois we don’t know if she bought her old house or not or if it’s that hometown or Chicago or anything 🙄

Im going to guess that the map is the key to being able to find the hidden place. She could only find Ramona’s because she had her dad’s map. They never found the secret room in the library because they didn’t have the map to follow.

I’m already struggling to pick this book up. I think all the Filipino dishes and words from her aunties take me out of the flow of the story and, if I try and put a finger on this, make me feel like this book isn’t for me.
The aunties also seem to live in a world where cop shows and Law & Order have never existed judging by the absolute naïveté when it comes to dealing with the police.
