In case you care and don’t know, I never read the back of books and like to go in blind. The story is not what I was expecting (based on the cover, ratings and recommendations) and so far I’m enjoying it more than I thought I would, plus I only got it for $8 at indigo (and Jonah ended up paying for it so really it was free)

Read it! Some of Gargoyle’s iconic lines:

"Have you been stealing, gargoyle?"
"Yes," he said with delight. "I'm rather good at it. I was caught only twice.

"How
embarrassing. I would never fall in such an ungainly way”

"Your foot-gloves are perfectly unscathed."

"Bartholomew does not know how to swim. But worry not—" He looked up at me. Smiled proudly.
"She has always excelled at drowning."

I understand the hype, this book deserves 5 stars for the gargoyle side-kick alone. What do you mean you sorta have a pet gargoyle who also thinks you’re his pet, calls everyone Bartholomew and speaks non-sense that makes sense? 10/10 for this side-kick character, if he dies, I’ll sue.
Also I read 32% or it last night and had to force myself to put it down and go to bed

Quick question, why do fantasy writers love for their characters to go through the most horrifying traumas? It’s like they’re trying to make an exhaustive list of what could hypothetically traumatized someone. Are you all ok? Where did those ideas even come from?

Anyways, this book ain’t really doing it for me at the moment but I’ll give it time

I already know I’m gonna like this book and I’ve only read a few chapters. It’s nice not having to power through a beginning (or most of a book)

I know I’m late to reading it but anyway, based on the hype it received, I honestly thought it’d be better. Mind you the movie was really mid so I guess I should have known. Don’t get me wrong it’s still entertaining and I’ll definitely finish it and I’ll probably give it a nice rating in the end but I was expecting more

I DNFed the audio book last summer so idk why I thought it was a good idea to purchase it (it was $2 at a thrift in my defence).
I’m currently forcing myself to read a chapter before bed once in a while and it sure is helping putting me to sleep

The sociology majors are either gonna love this book or hate the main girl (she is racist at the start)

I’m reading this book because:
- the author is French and I haven’t read a book in French for years
- I saw it recommended a few times
- I want people to think I’m cool and smart
