A reread for me.

This is a beautifully written book.

This is a very dry book to read!

I’m liking this book. It reminds me somewhat of Michael D. O’Brien’s books that deal with the state gaining control and watching over its people.

My morning read. This will be a tough one for me!

I’m living inside this book and am picturing vividly each situation this boy winds up in. Fun story!

I’m only 66 pages in but I’m enjoying this book. Makes me think I should reread A Soldier of the Great War. I couldn’t get into that one quite as easily.

Only 400 more pages to go! This is one lengthy book!

I can’t believe how much I love this book!

Sounds like Abigail Adams was a domineering mother which affected JQA throughout his life. Amazes me the different perceptions authors have regarding historical figures. David McCullough has painted her in a much more positive light.

Funny line—Though he eventually fell in love with the people, the wine and the architecture of France, the weather was another matter, causing him to speculate that there was a nearly permanent cloud bank over this section of Western Europe that produced pale and anemic human constitutions.

I am struggling with liking some of these founding fathers. Washington is great and truly wants what’s best for the country. I didn’t like Thomas Jefferson in the John Adams book and I’m struggling with him in this one as well. Alexander Hamilton seems to be very ambitious and he bothers me too. Everyone seems to be for their party and what’s best for them. Not George Washington though. I really respect him.
