I love this book so much! All of us need a friend group like this!

Loving this series - makes me think of my Grama (in heaven now) but she worked in a munitions factory in Quebec Canada during WW2.

I’m so happy I learned this was published in 3 volumes - introducing 2 natural stopping points! I totally get why this is a classic and got its popularity. It’s not an easy read but definitely a compelling one!

Started this on audio - but it was so well referenced needed the book to take appropriate notes. Restarted this past weekend.

I’m not as into this book as the first one…

As always once I start a Tessa Afshar book, it’s so good it’s difficult to put down. Being transported to 1st century Philippi into the (fictional) life of Lydia is amazing!!!

I’m struggling with this book. There is just too many sentences about the same thing.

Ex: At that moment I caught a glimpse of tears pooling in her eyes. She looked away, focusing on the few bites of food left on her plate, and caught a tear just as it formed.
Something was wrong. Really wrong. I was convinced of it now.

Seriously we get it, especially because the night before she had a tear in the car.

Love Vera’s advice - get up early and “grab life by the you know what”

I’m at the point where there may be a trope I am not fond of … we shall see

As usual, Francine Rivers is giving a masterclass on how to set a scene, introducing us to characters and the theme of the book. Loving the community she is building here. Very reminiscent of my hometown church with many elderly, few young people.

Vera Wong is an interesting character….

This book has weak characters and predictable plot. Life is too short to continue reading something I’m not enjoying.

Mild language. It’s a popcorn rom-com but characters are lacking anything remarkable…. Will give it another couple of chapters but this might be a DNF

I adore the Duke of Islington.

Emma: I said something encouraging. “Don’t be an imbecile”. Hahahahaha - it’s these clever lines that keep me reading!

I see why readers can get hooked but it ain’t hooking me yet. I like it but it’s about a middle of the pack book. My hope is that it’s just taking a bit to build the “world” and I’m accepting the payoff comes in maybe another book in the series?!

An ethical system in a shame and honor culture is a self-regulating and self-actualizing ethic, but an ethical system that draws on Christian beliefs is an “other-regarding” ethic based on a commitment to the good of others for their sake, not yours.
