DNF.

“I’ll just read the first three pages and then have lunch” is what I thought to myself. When I got up from where i was reading because I felt hunger pangs, I was done the first four chapters and it was almost 2pm. The mark of a good book. I tip my hat to you, dear author. I tip my hat to you... 👒

If this book was paced any slower, I’d have stopped reading it by now. I hope to finish reading it today. Just not sure how the climax of the book will turn out, with the two view points. The book would have been stronger with just one view point. Annette is nice, but there’s not much at stake for her as there is for Emilie who is working with more powerful magic, has a title, land and money.

I’m not going to lie. I was drawn to the book because of the gorgeous cover. It was recommended for me based on my previous reads and ratings on story graph, which I’m liking much better than goodreads, even though it’s only in beta right now. I’m loving it so far and can’t wait until i get to read some of the other book recs from Story Graph.

Beginning to wonder if my original prediction of the end is correct.

It feels like this is the beginning of the third act in the novel, but It’s only 57% of the way through. I’m still holding onto my original theory of Audrey Rose’s father being Jack the Ripper. A small secondary theory is that it’s her brother and a smaller tertiary theory is that it’s the detective that went with her to the Asylum...

Is Jack the Ripper her father? I swear, this book is super predictable if that is the case. But the writing is fun, so I’m going to continue on...

This book has a breakneck speed. I normally read before bed, but I can’t with this book otherwise I wouldn’t get any sleep before heading to work on the night shift. I’m struggling to find time to read, otherwise I’d probably be done the novel by now!

It’s been a long time since a book from an author I’ve never read has actually held my attention for good reasons. I wish I had started it sooner, as the ebook is due back in 9 days and I might not be able to finish it with my current schedule...

Is this the saggy middle that I was warned about from another reviewer? I’ve got 5 days left to finish the book before it’s due back at the library via Libby. I have serious doubts as to whether I’ll be able to finish it when I have so many chores to do and errands to run tomorrow, on top of keeping an eye on my littles and trying to cram in my camp NaNoWriMo project too.

This is a long book... anywho, anyone else still wondering where Danika’s sword is? Is it the other part of Luna’s horn? Did Sabine accidentally kill her own daughter via the pit monster? Is it going to be fixed by Bryce doing the Drop (light that’s not light, etc)? Will Bryce get Danika’s powers once she does the drop? Is that what Danika wished for?

So after Hunt was first mentioned in passing, I’m guessing he’s the love interest. I thought it’d be too easy if Connor was the love interest. Thought Danika might die, but not the whole pack. Of course she’s the Autumn King’s daughter. Because she couldn’t be Joe Schmoe ordinary Fae’s daughter. Of course her (presumed) love interest is uber powerful with even a tenth of his power.

Just finished chapter one. It feels like she’s trying to cram in all the world building into this chapter. My head hurts. Hopefully it gets better...

I’m going to be stuck at 80% for a while, as my ebook at the library expired. The writing is good, but I found myself not that motivated to read. Maybe it’s the pandemic. Maybe it’s this book. I just couldn’t finish it on time, which is unusual for me as I’m a fast reader.

If there’s one thing that I enjoy in books, it’s lots of scenes with witty banter. This book has so far delivered on that particular criteria.
