Honestly, not enthused about a protagonist who does not know who he is and is problem solving alone.

Why is the ex-girlfriend here at this part of the book?! Gah!

Dr. Walden is quite rude, overly controlling, and unnecessarily standoff-ish. I had hoped she’d have grown, but I’m doubtful at this stage of the book. Sadly, she is a protagonist that deserves humbling defeat, however, she is doing quite well - overcoming her obstacles while assisted by side characters who deserve more book time. I don’t like her.

This book needs to make up its mind about what it is - is it a romance? Is it horror? Too much exposition without enough drama?

Geez, that was unexpectedly dark, intense, and violent. Thematically that last scene was more horror than fantasy. Highly satisfying.

Too many characters. Very bureaucratic. What is interesting about policing magic to protect a school from demons? Magic is interesting. Policing magic is quite boring. The book is lacking juicy interpersonal drama. yes, there are character clashes, but nothing good yet.

I’m not finishing this one. I don’t like it. Too many characters. Mermaids and circus sounded intriguing but every time I pick up this book it feels like a chore to read without any excitement.

There is a wonderful surprising reveal, a clever twist. The big secret. Yet, it has not been celebrated, worse it feels like it has casually been disregarded. Now, I care less about our protagonists than the onslaught that is simmering. However, I wish for a glimmer of a conclusion’s foreshadowing. Right now, this story is meandering far too long.
