What.. ho? I didn't know about this Homage to Wodehouse! Just diving in, with remarkably high expectations

1. Terry Pratchett at 13 years of age could write better than I can today
2. Final Reward (1988) is a BEAUTIFUL story

“A man told me that in Go, it is deemed more worthy, more honorable, more respectable, if you can accept the fight as lost and surrender. If you are right, if it is at the right moment."

“Atlas. I like that.”
I shrugged.

Go is about territory, give and take, less about aggression than an educational sparring match between two master swordsmen, each walking away with a new kernel of knowledge.

I just came across this interesting throwaway line in this book: "Way down upon the soigné river", which interests me no bounds, because, Hugh Laurie, the most famous portrayal of Bertie Wooster in the TV adaptation of Wodehouse novels has a song that starts like "Way down, upon the Swanee river" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-qv8...)

I know the song is older than the book, but it's a nice coincidence.

I've barely started this book, and I've already come across a beautiful, sad, emotional story that just makes me want to stop and think. Even if the rest of this book was empty, I would give it 5 stars solely on the basis of "Pillar of Fire", my new favourite SF short story.

Phew. I've finished book 1! I really want to go on, and continue reading this book, but I really can't. Don Quixote is not a book someone like me an read in one sitting. There's too little going on.

It's like this:
So far, I'd call Don Quixote a wonderful collection of short stories connected by a single train of thought: Chivalry.

It's awesome, but not for one sitting. I'm taking a break before Book 2.
