Very interesting but a little bit hard to read. I think the author has so many tidbits to fit into the bite sized sections that sometimes the words don't make all the connections.

But truthfully, I imagine I will remain alone. That suits me. I enjoy having the possibility of defining who I am without labels or promises to anyone else. I have worked very hard to free myself from entanglements and obligations. It would have to be someone very unusual to make me want to give that up.

She thought she should have been granted immunity from Oscar's judgmental superiority, she who so devotedly forgave his transgressions against her and their marriage.

Ruby put her arm through Teddy's as they headed for the dining room. But Teddy couldn't fully give in to her warmth. She felt that somewhere, very early probably, she had lost Ruby, and she had never been sure how to win her back. This made her act overly sensitive and cautious with Ruby, and also caused her to think critical thoughts about her, which for the most part she kept entirely to herself.

Teddy loved and respected Lewis and enjoyed his company tremendously, but his passionate adoration of her had always served, ironically, as a barrier to further intimacy; the strength of his desire created a hasy miragelike force field around him. She couldn't see him clearly enough to desire him.
