Thoreau talks of how we only need a few things to survive (food, clothing, shelter, & fuel) then goes on a rant how society obsesses too much about appearance and clothes when the only co side ration for them should be “does it protect me from the elements or can i get rid of it?” Talk about minimalism.

So far I’m interpreting this as, “I live out in the woods alone and everyone thinks I’m wired but they’re the weird ones because they just farm all their lives with no meaning.” Thoreau is the ultimate “I’m not like other girls” trope.

I can’t believe the differences in character between the film and the book. Andy’s friends seem like jerks in the film; they always bring her down. In the book they constantly support her career. Her boyfriend seems way less toxic in the book. Once I finish I’ll probably re-watch the film to compare (it’s been a while since I’ve seen it).
