Reducing spiritual ‘love’ to trite romanticism.
Shafak intertwines multiple timelines in many of her books. This one least successfully - maybe because the past timeline is in fact a book written and read in the present timeline. Too many first-person narratives make up the book about the past - a clever experiment, perhaps, but confusing, and it also limits character development.
I can’t finish this book.
