So far this book is great. It packs so much info in such a short bit of space. While I have to reread parts, I think it’s fantastic. Understanding the differences between Hobbes, Locke and Rousseau has been fascinating - I’m excited to look up some videos about their philosophy in the near future.

Curiosity influences our understanding and navigation of the world on an everyday basis. Reinforcement learning often depends on points, for example, as a tool to encourage learning and development (similar to how humans evaluate points in the process of learning a task or game). It’s interesting to think about and understand how novelty, surprise, and curiosity can also be utilized to encourage machine learning.

It’s amazing to see how pre-Socratic philosophers developed an understanding of the world that is not too far off from what we scientifically agreed upon years later. This books is tough ngl - it’s hard to swallow at times, but I’ll get through it one day at a time.

I’m loving this book so far. It’s the perfect book for what I’m trying to understand at the moment. I think it has seriously convinced me to pursue a career in law that considers the ethical debate surrounding the implications of AI technologies.

Completely enthralled.

The sets of images certain AI facial recognition have historically been trained on are biased, and it will permanently shape the behavior of deployed systems unless we intervene.

“There are more than twice as many images of George W. Bush in the LFW dataset as there are of all black woman, combined.”
