I haven't hated a character this much since Gene and Sean Westover in Tara Westover's "Educated", but Ernt takes the cake as the absolute worst. Gene and Sean may be real in that Educated is a memoir, but Ernt represents so much of the evil that so many women experience in real life. He makes me sick.

We are made of the same things as the stars and the planets. Remembering that connection brought Joan comfort. It also brought her some sense of responsibility. And what was kinship but that? Comfort and responsibility.

It's been so long since I read this book, I forgot that Gale is an absolute lunatic.

"Not if we blow it up,” says Gale brusquely. His intent, his full intent, becomes clear. Gale has no interest in preserving the lives of those in the Nut. No interest in caging the prey for later use. This is one of his death traps."

Reading this to the girls (it's my first time too) and we love how funny it is. It's held up remarkably well. Preparing myself to cry many tears.
