Mert is starting Haben oder Sein
I‘m just a girl standing in front of @realbatiwutschi trying to understand:

(I) the causal relationship of performativity - specifically performative masculinity - and internalised capitalist ideals, especially on social media: what is cause, symptom or co-produced?

(II) the materialisation of millieu-specific attributes and ‚gadget-isation’ of identity via filter bubbles and ‚aesthetics‘?

Mert is starting The 5 Types of Wealth: A Transformative Guide to Design Your Dream Life
First sentence: throughout your life you will see your parents 15 more times. (Once a year for 15 more years, when they reach average life expectancy in the US).

This derailed me. So, I ran the numbers for myself.

At current rate of my visits and if she turns 85 I would see my mother between 40-60 times, my grandma maybe 2 times, my step-dad ca 10 times. I would see my best friends only ca 120 more times. Fml.

Mert is starting 30 Days—Change Your Habits, Change Your Life: A Couple of Simple Steps Every Day to Create the Life You Want
Reading for the Grindset - of course and it serves the purpose.
A few points, though that disturbed my reading flow:
- quoting Bill Cosby life wisdom on well being didn’t age well
- not sure it’s advisable to suggest that quitting law school to sell high heels - law students are so desperate they might actually do it (low-key tempted myself)

Some key issues I have with this one:
1. Still wondering what consultants do. I’m half way through. I don’t think this book should keep such things implicit
2. The focus is on unethical projects rather than on unethical conduct and structural issues associated with consulting

Big shoutout to audible and my best friend (and her letting me join her audible account) for allowing me to indulge in such books without having to put them on my bookshelf on public display lol

For context (sorry cannot help it):
- i wish bones were 30£
- page 8 and there is two „Rhodies(!)“ which might happen in certain circles (such as the ones who gather aus Rhodes house) but still statistically very unrealistic

To my five good reads connections: I think you should read this. It’s a bit like listening to strangers talking about their life lessons which is wholesome but it is also a scientifically grounded perspective on what constitutes a good life (in the US): lieben wir.

Mert is starting Das Kind in dir muss Heimat finden.

Mert is on page 40 of 335 of What We Owe the Future
This book is for obvious reasons part of a big longtermism hype in the effective altruism community which builds on core concepts Macaskill developed in “doing good better”.

Interim Review: Merely assessing the content of the book however I don’t get the hype. Rather I am in disbelief how he was not yet cancelled for his grotesque assessments of and opinions on climate change.
